Set games are more fun with video

Video chat has been available on BBO for over a year now. Thousands of you have been using it to enjoy a more social version of online bridge. Have you had a chance to try it out?

We've been using video chat for our weekly tournament here at BBO. It's been loads of fun, and a great way for our geographically dispersed team to get to know one another better. It's useful and fun in so many ways. We're all playing at different levels and it allows the more experienced players to help the newcomers. The bottom line is, we're getting to know each other better, and make new friends, and some of us (me included) are learning how to get better at this great game. I just wish I could be the one at the top of the leaderboard for once, but alas, that could take a very long time!

Thanks go to all who've been using it and for sending in your messages and support. BBOer Eleni, for example organises her popular HELLAS tournaments for the Greek community with video chat on. Your feedback has helped us stay focused on what's important and to keep improving the playing experience.

If you and your friends would like to try video chat, contact us at support@bridgebase.com with your BBO username and let us know that you wish to receive access to video. Here are a couple help files to give you an idea of how it can be activated:

  1. Copied from my rating feedback (maybe someone will get a laugh): Sorry to sound like a grumpy bugger, I love BBO, but if your intention was to spread the word about video chat and to encourage its use, this article is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Try including instructions next time--at least explain why you can't just show them (e.g. explain that and why manual intervention is required).
