New! Partner-Offline Warning

Ever missed a tournament because your partner lost connection and you didn’t notice in time?
Not anymore!

From now on, if you’re registered for a pair tournament and your partner is offline, a few minutes before start, you’ll see a clear on-screen warning. You’ll have time to message them or find a new partner so you don’t miss the game.

More games, fewer no-shows — happy bridging!

FAQ

How many times will I be warned?
You only see the warning once, unless the tournament director manually sets the game to issue additional warnings.

How much time in advance?
The default is 5 minutes. Depending on the game, you might get it earlier or later, if the tournament director changes the default setting.

Which tourneys have this?
At the moment, only virtual club games have this feature. If it proves useful and popular, we plan to expand it to more games.

My partner is online — why do I get the warning?
If the BBO system detects your partner as offline, you will not be included in the game. Ask your partner to restart their BBO application or reboot their device to ensure they are online.

I’m a club manager — how do I get this for my games?

  1. Thank you. This seems like good idea.

Would be helpful if any "partner offline" messages could be copied to TD as well as the partner.

Tried tonight at 5 mins, and again at 2 mins, but inevitably someone was still offline at the start.

I think issue for many at start (and also those who lose connection when dummy, and/or at end of round while waiting for the next to start) is that their device has a "sleep setting" which is very short... 2-3 mins probably. If they don't keep touching their device it idles, and then they get logged off of BBO.

More likely to affect those using iPads and tablets I suspect rather than laptops.

Could BBO also do more in terms of suggesting people amend their device "sleep settings"? I think this might help. Well a few folk anyway.
