What is a "Swiss Open Pairs?"

Swiss Pairs is a new twist on the 18-board, Matchpoints, pair game you already love. What's different is that it uses Swiss movement, which means, your pair moves from one round to another based on the scores achieved, and plays against opponents who have similar results.

Highest scorers play at Table 1, so the lower your table number, the better you are doing. If you don't do brilliantly, no worries -- you will play against other pairs who have similar results to yours, so you can still win and make it back to the top.

ACBL Swiss Pairs is available in ACBL World, daily at 3:10 PM Eastern Time, and awards Double ACBL Masterpoints (200% Crystal).

Every day

ACBL Swiss Pairs award 200% Crystal points (top finishers can win up to 8 masterpoints!).
  • Play against opponents at your level

    1. Hi Judy, it’s still a pairs gane, not a team gane 🙂 The main change is just the movement format.

This event now uses a Swiss movement, which means you’ll face pairs with similar rankings based on your results from the previous rounds/boards.

  1. What are "crystal points" and how do they count toward the various ACBL Life Master ranks?

    1. Crystal points are ACBL masterpoints earned in online play. They’re colorless (sometimes called “unpigmented”) and count toward your total masterpoints

  2. i notice that when opposition feel they cant ply the hand they max out their time and have robot ply the hand. like wise with bidding.

    1. You’re right, it’s not Swiss Teams, it’s still a pairs game. The difference is that it uses a Swiss movement instead of the usual Mitchell format.

  3. I miss the ten cents tourneys of churros and Swiss 6 boards than I use to be able to play. They’ve been blocked off to many of us

  4. I’m only interested in new tournaments that are shorter. Not longer. 12 bd is long enough. I like six board tourneys.

    1. There are also plenty of shorter games in the BBO World section if you'd like to try, like Express 4-Fast Boards and Six for All Robot Duplicates, and many more 😊

        1. Hi Becki, some tournaments and formats rotate or are shown differently over time, so what’s available can change. We’ll pass your feedback along. 🙂
