Last Saturday, November 30, we invited all BBOers to join the Cards of Kindness – Thank You, Partner Edition. We’re so grateful to everyone who took part in this special event. It was all about coming together as a bridge community to spread positivity and celebrate the simple joy of connection.
One of the brightest highlights for us was reading the thoughtful and heartwarming messages you shared about your beloved bridge partner. Your words truly embodied the spirit of kindness we hoped to inspire.
Here are just a few of our favorite messages from the event:
"When I was in my 20's my Sister's best friend had a young son named Mike Barry who was about 10 years younger than I was. I watched him grow over the years seeing him every Christmas at my sister's house.
When he retired he started playing in a non-sanctioned duplicate game my sister ran, and where I played with her. Around that time my regular duplicate partner started playing with someone else, and I was in search of a new partner. Mike had a pedigree in bridge with his own Dad, John Barry being way beyond just a life master. I invited him to a sanctioned game and he was hooked. In our very first hand I bid a club. He hesitated forever, annoying our opponents. Finally he said 6 clubs, and sure enough that was the bid! We went on to win at clubs, regionals and sectionals.
We played online weekly during Covid. He helped me get my Life Master, and went on to get his. If you need a new partner, just look around at who you already know! Thank you partner!"
"This is a thank you to husband as well as my favorite sister and brother-in law. (Luckily my other sisters and in-laws do not play BBO bridge and won’t see this!).
We’ve gone from nights of face-to-face bridge over a few bottles of wine, to playing across the continent during Covid and helping each other stay sane. Having one to two bridge games a week during that very isolating time was so valuable. Now we live only 1000 miles away from each other more or less, Covid restrictions are just about over, but playing BBO is still a highlight of the week. We multitask as we play, since gossip is a big part of our bridge games.
As our lives get more complicated, it gets harder to schedule these important games, and yet we each still make it a priority. So thanks for your friendship, your gamesmanship, and most importantly, your acceptance of my physical and sometimes mental, handicaps. Love you lots."

"I have the perfect partner: she never gets mad, even when I have made a terrible bid or play; she always finds a way to make me laugh; and she dishes out the sweet compliments when I do well. Thank you, Barbie."
"Maybimamzd is the best partner! We debate, discuss, improve, leave each other stranded in missed conventions, pass forcing bids and laugh until we cry! Thanks, Jenn!!"
"To an extremely sweet lady whom I have had the pleasure of knowing for over 20 years and bridge partner thank you for being you and taking me under your wing at CC. Those were wonderful years. You are the best."
"Alan Skvirsky has been my P for 20 years. You have been at times kind and caring, grouchy and intolerable.I wouldn't trade any of it.Best of all you are my friend and I love you. Thanks"
"My favorite partner is rhody49. I would like to thank him for his patience, kindness and great bridge sense! I hope we can play together for many years to come.❤️"
"My favorite partner is NJOFESS. First of all, she is extremely tolerant of me and never (well almost never) scolding. Bridge is just more fun when we play together."
"I would like to thank Snuggles50 for being a fabulous teacher and partner 😁. He spent countless hours teaching, revising and playing with me. He taught me to love the game and I am so grateful. Thank you Snuggles50 for being the Best Partner Ever."
"Thank you to Ferryfan who has always been an absolute delight to play with. She is far and away the bestest bridge-mate I've ever had. It helps that we are genuine friends away from bridge. I simply couldn't imagine not playing together. 🫂"
"To Wes,
You have taken me in hand, fixed my computer many times, and helped me with bridge. Tyvm, you have been most wonderful to a stumbling player."
"123 Pearl: teacher, mentor and friend. Through the ups and downs of winning and losing you still continue to encourage and motivate.. thank you"
"Teaching my granddaughter bridge at an early age paid off. Now at 23 she is mastering the game with lightning speed. How proud and fortunate for me to have the opportunity to play with her in a regional tournament and scoring red/gold MP."
"To Barbara Duer,
Thank you for all the mentoring, blood sweat and tears that has brought me up to where I am today. You are a terrific partner and great player. We have further to go and I am looking forward to it"
"Ciao Baas, siamo amici da tanti anni, abbiamo avuto dei bei risultati, oggi molto meno, ciò nonostante l'ultimo torneo, non giocavamo da tanto, ci ha visti vincitori. Sei sempre stato il miglior partner, malgrado in tanti anni una sola volta mi hai detto e di te ho sempre apprezzato la signorilità. In tanti anni solo una volta mi hai detto "eh bravino" Avevo appena fatto 4 P contrate contro una delle coppie più forti e non per un loro errore."
"When I first met my partner to be he asked if I played bridge. My reply was yes , I do, it is just a game of common sense! In later years he has got into the habit of saying “better players do this etc” when he is discussing the game with me! Nevertheless I continue to play with him despite the annoying nuances. The fact remains we have done ok in the past by winning the odd trophy,. On those occasions I have said “It takes two to tango” and wait for the cheeky answer!"
"My long term wife Monica 21 is one of the p's of all time. We met on bridge on our old accounts 16 years ago, she insulted my plays at the time and I fell in love with her. We are happily married now for 12 years with 4 beautiful children. Thank you bridgebase.com!"
"Good morning Ziggus,
Thank you for playing with me on BBO. I look forward to our session every day we play. I enjoy our games very much. You are a kind and patient partner.xxxx"
Thank you again for being part of our event and for spreading kindness through the game we all love. Let’s carry this positive energy into the next hand we play.
I've played bridge for about 75 years & duplicate for about 15. Never had a regular partner though until csbish lost her ptnr to dementia. I was lucky that csbish chose me as replacement. We play at the senior center & on BBO. We earned our Life Master & Silver together. She's a friend to all & a good player too.
great for you two to find each other 🙂
