  1. On hand 3, the proper play for East at trick 1 is Q from QJxx, to reassure your partner a card earlier. If you play the J, he has to wait for declarer to play low to realize that his play didn't cost a trick.

  3. Excellent examples with clear commentary.

    However, please lose the politically correct “they” and “their”. Partner is singular , therefore traditionally , “he” and “his” or if you prefer, “she” and “her”.

  4. I want to ask for key cards in hearts, not diamonds. I can still bid the diamond slam without confusion after my partner answers key cards in hearts. Besides, 6H might be the best contract.
