BBO: A Lifeline for Bridge Players

2020

COVID-19 & the Rise of Online Bridge
As the pandemic accelerates the global shift to online activities, BBO becomes the primary hub for bridge events and virtual clubs, providing a vital space for players to stay connected in spite of the need for social distancing.

When the world came to a halt and everyday life was upended, bridge remained a constant. While people were confined to their homes, looking for ways to stay connected, BBO became more than just an online platform—it became a virtual gathering place, where friends could reunite and communities could stay intact.

For many players, logging into BBO wasn’t just about playing bridge; it was about holding onto a sense of normalcy when everything else had changed. It was about keeping cherished routines alive, hearing familiar names at the virtual table, and finding comfort in the shared rhythm of the game.

As in-person clubs closed, Virtual Clubs emerged, allowing bridge organizations around the world to continue online. BBO became a crucial support system, enabling local clubs to continue operating, hosting tournaments, and providing players with a sense of belonging even in isolation. What started as a temporary solution actually brought in a new era for the game, proving that the spirit of bridge is stronger than any challenge.

Even as the world reopened, one thing remained clear: bridge is more than a game—it’s a community. And thanks to the wonderful BBO community, we managed to stick together, regardless of the distance between us.
