ACBL Sanctioned Tournaments
BBO officially integrates American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) sanctioned tournaments, creating more competitive opportunities for bridge enthusiasts.
In 2004, a partnership was formed between BBO and the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), marking the start of an exciting new era for online bridge.
This collaboration went far beyond the introduction of ACBL-sanctioned tournaments — it created a dynamic connection between the physical and digital worlds of bridge. By expanding its game offerings and opening the door to a wide array of special events and competitions, BBO brought new opportunities to play, compete, and connect.
For the past two decades, the collaboration between BBO and the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) has created a strong and lasting bond between the world of live, in-person bridge and the thriving online community. Through this connection, ACBL members can recognize each other on BBO, creating a sense of community.
This partnership goes beyond sanctioned tournaments — it also includes a wide range of special events and competitions. ACBL districts have now become part of the online experience, allowing players to participate in district-level events even when they can’t attend in-person tournaments nearby. This flexibility has made it easier for more players to stay connected and engaged with their local bridge communities, no matter where they are.
One of the key elements of this partnership is the integration of ACBL Masterpoints®. These prestigious points, a cornerstone of ACBL’s ranking system, can be earned directly on BBO through a variety of sanctioned games. From Clubhouse games to Pairs tournaments and Express Individual events, players have numerous opportunities to grow their rankings and track their progress just as they would in physical clubs and ACBL tournaments.
