For over 20 years, BBO has been the home of bridge players worldwide. As the years passed and the game evolved, so did BBO—introducing tournaments, robots, and new ways to play.
Lots has changed over time - but tracking progress? Not so much.
BBO Points have existed for more than two decades, making them a long-standing reference in the bridge world. However, we believe your bridge journey deserves better.
That's why we created Bridge Experience Points (BXP) - a clearer, smarter way to reflect your growth in the game.
This is just the first step in a much bigger plan. BXP will evolve in the coming months, bringing more ways to engage, compete, and earn recognition.
You can see your BXP and how you earned them on the BXP lookup page.
Many of you have asked:
Bridge is a game of skill and experience, and progress should reflect that. BXP make improvement visible, rewarding, and motivating.
BXP stand for Bridge Experience Points - these are points you earn by playing games on BBO and have replaced BBO Points. You earn BXP in the same way you used to earn BBO Points, only now they offer a clear and more meaningful progression. No more feeling stuck. No more guessing where you stand. Now, progress is structured, visible, and rewarding.
Here’s what’s new:
With 150 levels, it's easy to see your next milestone.
A dynamic system ensures that progress feels steady and satisfying
Titles and badges highlight your key achievements along the way.
See your level improve, and aim for the next milestone.
This is the first step toward a complete system that truly reflects skill, experience, and dedication.
Play to earn BXP
BXP are awarded in premium tournaments hosted on BBO.
Your BXP determines your level
The more you play, the more you progress across 150 levels.
Your badge marks your milestones
Displayed on your profile, your badge shows your status and progression.
As you progress on BBO by earning BXP, you'll climb the levels, and be awarded new titles. The table below shows the title associated with each level range, along with the BXP required.
BXP is just the beginning. Over the next few months, more ways to engage, compete, and earn recognition will be introduced, including:
Rewards System
Earn in-game perks, special gifts, and community recognition.
Achievements & Challenges Unlock badges for milestones and take on daily, weekly, and long-term challenges.
Performance-Based Recognition
Future ranking will be based even more on player skill
Your BBO points are now called BXP.
1BBO Point = 1 BXP
You can win BXP in premium BBO games, just like before.
Levels now range from 1 to 150 and are based on how many BXP you have.
Your level could well be higher than it was before.
You earn your first title (Explorer) when you earn 1 BXP. There are 9 titles in total ranging from 'Explorer' right through to 'Legend'.
The badge design changes to represent your title.
Your profile displays your badge and level.
It's easy to see your partner's and competitor's level by clicking on their username.
It just got harder to get any "titel"
And I feel robbed
Thanks for sharing how you feel. Sorry you feel robbed. We are listening and all comments are being noted. This is just the start of BXPs evolution.
The new system is designed to offer clear progression for all users. Yes, there are gaps between titles, however, the levels in between track steady progress. Everyone — including you — have actually advanced in level with this update. You can check your current Level and see how close you are to the next one on this page, which details your BXP level and breakdown: https://www.bridgebase.com/v3/tools/bxp-points
Little bid disappointed about the new BXP system, 9+ old title be level 45, and what i disappointed about new title is level 45 like beginner , whereas for get those level was full of struggle, i wanna get 10 old title but the tittle change, and now idk the others detail BXP of friend's get, only the level, cannot know the tourney's friend was participated and got the point.
Thanks for ruining my day!
Have worked diligently from day one to reach a Gold 10.
With a 130 to go would have achieved this rank in a matter of months.
Now I’m a BXP of 47. Ugh!
Next level will be a # 55 which adds over 400 points to my journey. Get exhausted even thinking about that now!
How many others feel fed up seeing this new system?
I feel demeaned and highly disappointed. 😢
Yes, this the future…and it doesn’t look bright!
How do the highest ranking members feel about needing over 37,000
to achieve a little gold acknowledgment that so small nobody can see it anyway!
agree about these statement, level 9,9+,10 for old title, full of struggle few of years to get those level, but now change the level to strategist (level 30-54) that was like beginner player, what a joke. big disappointed about this system change
I have rarely seen a better demonstration of Hutber's Law: "Improvement means deterioration."
How many players, like myself, feels this “new system” (BPX) is demeaning to current players?
Raise your hand!
How so?
No change yet on iOS.
Another failed rollout from BBO? Usually all platforms are released at once.
In my jurisdiction "they" "improved" the public transit system, and destroyed it. Same here. Who are these creatures; what world are they living in?
I was so looking forward to reaching my Gold 10 rank with 130 pts to go.
Looking at the “new ranking system” of bxp, I feel I got demoted!
My bpx is 47, so now have to go to a bpx of 54, which ADDS 400 more
Pts to reach the next level!
Disappointing and disgusting to think of this next long and extended playing time to reach the next level.
Lastly…and this really takes the cake…no gold at all until 37,000 points!
Hardly a testimonial of the time and effort spent playing bridge.
Lastly, how many players feel they’ve been demoted as I am feeling?
The new font is ugly and harder to read than the old one. Profiles are too large by default and have to be resized to view properly. This is change for the sake of change.
I would pay real money to go back to the old style ratings and the old style fonts
When I did a look up for my points, I was no longer shown the number of points I earned in the month. Unless I start tracking them myself, I won't know if the points awarded me by the ACBL are correct.
I'm sure you can still do it, click on your username at the top-right, then click on 'my BXP' then scroll down to see them
Points are points, why change? why give silly names to the levels? the font got smaller, I can't figure out how to make it bigger. change for the sake of change is annoying. player profiles are taking more screen landscape, so to view a player's profile we need to scroll down and I am on a laptop, I can't even imagine what it would like on a smartphone. so sad 🙁
Do not understand the change at all. Still based on if you play in tournaments that charge fee. Has nothing to do with skill. If you play more in tournaments that charge a fee, you earn more whatever the awards are called.
I don't understand the change at all. Looks like to me levels are still based on playing in games that you have to pay a fee to play in, so still paying for level of play not skill. Players names etc. way too small now for people with sight problems. Why this change.
The point system gives too much at the lower levels and widens the gap at the higher levels. old point system was better and fairer. This is nonsense.
I absolutely agree.
It says 1 bbo point = 1 bxp. I have 855 bbo points so why am I not 855 bxp points.
It is awful,
I see no point to changing the point system. Points are points, why change it? Change for the sake of change is silly. remember the old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The more BBO changes, the less I care to be here.
Looking at how some of my acquaintances are classified in this new system, this classification is extremely disappointing and in no way allows one to understand the quality of their opponents. I read another comment that these changes represent a business interest for BBO but I feel the advice BBO received before they made this change was very poor. Have you appointed a new VP or Director of Marketing?
I agree; not well explained including the rational for the change and what was wrong with the old system?
Did people really object to what we had before?
This has WAY TOO many levels!
I play frequently in 0-2500 games (wish there were more of those, even 0-3500). Many times there are people playing that had very high level BBO points, but didn't feel that was fair. So now, their BXP points will also be higher than most of the players in the limited (0-2500) games; and I've been told it's because they are not ACBL members, so their points arent the same as ours. How can this be fair???
Hi Ina,
Did you know that ACBL has an Equivalency Points (EP) program? Any ACBL member with a bridge history outside the ACBL can have that history assessed, and if applicable, be assigned EPs—these are considered equivalent to ACBL Masterpoints for stratification purposes.
If you come across players in ACBL games who may not have been properly classified, feel free to let a tournament director know or reach out to ACBL directly at masterpoints@acbl.org.
Can you only earn points by playing in tournaments? I am still a beginner - do robot games can help you progress (it would be nice to be able to monitor improvement or otherwise). Also, why are there so few ACOL tournaments to play?
You can earn BXP points by playing premium tournaments—both with humans and robots.
As for ACOL games, we appreciate the feedback and know there’s interest. Hopefully more will be added in the future!
New points system is same s*hit, different wrapping. It would be better to BBO charges 1-2$ per month / player, and then all player's progress counts in some point system. This is half-done job, on one hand BBO is free, but on another you have to play paid tournaments if you wish points. BBO+ is one another stupid thing but that isn't theme now.
We understand that not everyone will see value in the new points system right away, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. BXP is designed to track progress on BBO through premium games, as these help support the platform. That said, we still value and appreciate all players—including those who prefer playing free. 🙂
You're not going to change anything, though, are you? You'll just make what you think are soothing noises, that will actually enrage us all.

Dislike Profile changes. Totally unnecessary and BBO points were at least understandable.
It would have been better to simply use ACBL points.
We understand not everyone will connect with the new profile design right away. The changes were made to highlight player activity more clearly across BBO—not just ACBL games. BXP is meant to complement existing point systems, not replace them.
We appreciate your feedback and will keep it in mind as we continue to improve the experience. 🙂
I cant see the new BXP system on my Profile? How can I see? What should I do? When will it begin to work? Is ıt also again to see on mobile phone?
The print is too small on the boards NSEW and the names of one’s Opp’s.
We are having difficulties registering invitations and acceptance . Missed games because of this.
As to the new system???? This is duplicate bridge and the new system bears no resemblance to the ACBL point system. I have yet to see any value in this system.
DID YOU ASK FOR FEEDBACK OR IDEAS FOR THIS SYSTEM?
We’re sorry to hear you’ve had issues with readability and game invitations—thank you for letting us know. Your feedback is noted and will be shared with the team.
BXP was created to reflect overall activity on BBO, including games beyond ACBL events. While it’s a different system, it’s designed to complement—not replace—existing point structures.
seem very artificial and cloudy new ranges...what was wrong with the clear simple straight forward old?
were there to many 10's 11's and 12's?
Before the gap 500-1000 was too big? So now it is even bigger, some 1200 or 1400 or the likes..
I find it silly
These points are absolutely meaningless. My husband is one of the best players in the world. My student is one of the worst players in the world. They both have around the same level, just below mine. Nice try BBO, but your system is as random as it used to be.
same thing, different day
Değişim iyidir, ilerlemek daha iyidir.
I don't play any tournaments, so does that mean I'll always be stuck at "1?" I play A LOT, so I feel like that should be recognized with points too. Please reply!
the font of nick on the tournament table list is too small for us as TD , makes us dizzy please change it ....thanks
It seems these are awarded only for events / tournaments, possibly only paid-for ones. And they accumulate forever with no reduction in value of older points.
If so, it's just another masterpoints marketing ploy, designed to get people playing more in return for the illusion of being good.
If I go and rake up a few thousand leaves in the garden, it won't make me an expert gardener.
What would be a real step forward would be a true ranking system that applies to every board played, in competitions or just the normal tables, which takes account of casual versus serious partnerships, strength of opps etc and also looks mainly at relatively recent scores.
makes NO sense
There are SO far from level to level.
Stupid, and not better
This is really annoying! It took me 3 years to get to level 8. Now I’m back at level 1. This really puts me off playing on BBO.
there is something wrong with your new rank .ı guess...
ı was the same 8 and 33 today....
Güzel bir uygulama olur
italiano?
L'italiano 🙂
Wow the icon for the points is really... wide.
Did we have to change the font type also? print seems much smaller now.
WHATS in a Name? means nothing really the more you play in qualifying events the more points you will obtain, nothing to do with your skill/ability level.
The print is too small , Hope this can be resolved.
this is awful!
Don't understand this at all. The last time BBO made a
'big improvement' was when it played the last trick for you.
How helpful was that!!!!
Joke,,,,,,,,,, lol 🙂
esos torneos son pagando?o,gratuitos?
Hola,
Será exactamente igual que con los puntos BBO. Sus puntos se mantendrán y funcionarán de la misma manera, con el añadido de poder seguir su progreso a través de niveles y categorías.
esos torneos son pagando?
o,gratuitos?
I HATE THIS!!!!! IT IS DISCRIMINATORY, MAKES WEAKER PLAYERS LIKE MYSELF TOTALLY EXPOSED, AND WILL MAKE FINDING PARTNERS MORE DIFFICULT.
WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING?
Hi,
If you don’t want to show your progress and your badge on your profile, you can go to ‘Settings’ and deselect “Show badge".
why u do not take it as a motivation for develop your self and upgrade your level !
This is legitimately hilarious LOL

Hi,
BXP is designed to grow and evolve over time. While it currently reflects BBO Points (which are earned mostly in events and tournaments, both free and paid), this is just the beginning. We’re actively working on features that will make the system more dynamic — including ways to accelerate your BXP, unlock boosts, and progress faster.
BXP isn’t meant to replace skill-based rankings, but rather to offer a long-term progression layer that complements your journey on BBO.
I agree. I was a middle 12 and I feel my efforts are being trivialized.
Lots of marketing going on with the new regime.
More Bridge, less marketing.
You have only created a huge question mark in most.....I'm only sure it is to BBO's advantage
I do not understand how this works … it is not explained well at all.
Hi,
BXP (Bridge Experience Points) will replace BBO Points as the new way to track your activity and progress on BBO.
It'll be launched on May 13, and once it’s live, you’ll see exactly how it looks and works — with clear explanations built in.
In the meantime, you can check out this FAQ for a helpful overview:

Hi,
Why is so ugly?
At table, we can't see wind and players name. Too little, Please do something to change this.
I agree the screen names a way too small.
the font of nick is too small makes us as TDs feels dizzy looking it , please change bigger thanks
Hi,Today was 13rd of the month but we didnt see the new ranks (BXP)on our profiles? When can we see? When will it begin to work?
Do i need performance or judt a lot of play?
What is the connection between level range and current BBO points? Meaningless without it. No doubt it will make sense when you reveal that but otherwise pointless.
Hello laochra,
Your BBO points are now called BXP. 1 BBO Point = 1 BXP. The table above (BXP system and badges) shows the title associated with the levels, along with the BXP required.
I am excited to get started.
So... exactly the same thing but with slightly different gamification?
Huge gap between strategist and
virtuoso. Ridiculous spacing of points needed to advance to next level. I don’t think many will be enthusiastic about participating to achieve new levels.
Hi,
BXP is designed to grow and evolve over time. We know the jumps between titles can feel big right now, but we’re working on future features that will let you accelerate your BXP, unlock boosts, and climb faster. There's a lot more to come - this is just the beginning.
seems to be a very artificial and totally irrelevant new system..the old one was rather clear, no need to give the aimal a name, nor dont break it just to fix
I agree with Jessy. I already feel defeated.
Also, you don’t explain how many pts. To go from 20 to 21 for example.
How did you come up with the formula that put a 10 to a 50 for example?
Thank you.
Same question but also, will ACBL points not reflected in out BBO point number be included in the conversion into BXP points? I do not have many but would like to see past years ACBL black points included in this conversion.
AmslerN
Will points be cumulative no matter over how long or will the level only be for a certain period
Hi,
BXP points are cumulative and don’t reset—they’ll continue to grow for as long as you play. Your level reflects your overall progress over time.
Do BXP points count towards accumulating ACBL points as BBO points did?
I do not understand how this works … it is not explained well at all. My wife and I have been trying to understand it, and nothing hangs together.
To put it simply: BXP (Bridge Experience Points) will replace BBO Points as the new way to track your activity and progress on BBO.
It'll be launched on May 13, and once it’s live, you’ll see exactly how it looks and works — with clear explanations built in.

Agree
Welcome BXO Points
what happens to current bbo points accrued ?
What will happen to my normal pointsålease answear
Hi, your existing BBO Points will be converted into BXP. You didn’t lose anything. You’ll continue to earn points in the same way as before, but now your progress will be easier to follow through levels and milestones. 🙂
