Quick Guide to BBO

Here's a quick guide to the most popular features, and answers most frequently asked questions. If you can't find what you're looking for though, please don't hesitate to contact support@bridgebase.com.

Quick links to the sections:

Find a game

From the home screen, click on Casual (under the blue “Play or Watch Bridge” heading):

On the next screen, click Take me to the first seat available (under the green “Help me find a game - Play“ heading).

That’s it. You’ll be whisked off to a table with other bridge players looking for a player.

Update your profile

Click the Account tab, to the right of the screen:

This opens your profile, where you can add more info about yourself, such as name, skill level, country, and, in the "Other" field, anything else you'd like to mention.

Click "Save changes" when done, to save your edits.

See Who's Online

To the right of your screen, click on the People tab:

At the top of that panel there are links to see who's online; "Friends", "Hosts" (these are helpers who can answer questions and guide you around the site), "Stars", "Kibitzers" (when you are at a table) and other options to find people and manage your friends. Click on a players name to see their profile.

Chat to another player

Click on the players name to bring up their profile. You'll see the Chat box at the bottom of their profile where you can type your message.

Chat to the table during play

Usually, when you're seated at a table, your chat is automatically directed to the table, so that all players can see it. To send a chat message, type in the chat box at the bottom of your screen.

You can click the blue button at the bottom left of your screen for more options:

Join a friend's table

Click on your friend’s name, to bring up their profile. If your friend is playing or kibitzing, there will be a Join button available which you can click to join them.

Robots - how to rent

BBO offers the option to rent robots, either daily or weekly, that you can use at your table to practice. Rented robots are used for practicing and playing in the Casual area. You don't need to rent robots for tournaments. To rent a robot, start by selecting Robot World

On the next screen click on the blue Robot Rentals button. Basic robots are usually sufficient for most purposes.

Robots - how you and your partner can play against two robots

Results - see your results while playing

To see your results while playing at a table, click on the History tab, to the right of your screen.

Clicking My Table will show your scores. Clicking Other Tables shows what others played on the same board.

Results - see the game results once your game is finished

To view your results after playing, click on the History tab and select the Recent Hands. From here you can also see your list of Recent Tournaments.

Adding a friend

You can 'Follow' other players on BBO, which allows you to see when they're online. But to be counted as 'Friends' on BBO the follow needs to be reciprocated.

To add someone as a friend, click on their name to see their profile. In their profile, click on “Relationship” (usually set to “Neutral“), and select Follow. When they follow you back, their status will change to Friend, which will mean you'll get a notification when they log in.
