ACBL Instant 4 Boards is a shorter version of the Instant Tournament format. Each game consists of four boards and can be played whenever it suits you.

The hands come from a previous tournament that you haven't played before. Your results are compared with players who played those same boards in the original event. After each board, you'll see your score and current ranking. Masterpoints® are awarded based on your final result.

How do I play?

Click Instant Tournaments and choose ACBL Instant 4 Boards from the list of available games.

The details

Each game is 4 boards. You must complete all 4 to appear on the leaderboard. There's no time limit, but if you're inactive for around 45 minutes the game will be forfeited.

A couple of things to know about how the hands are set up:

• these games use Best Hand, which means you'll always hold as many or more high-card points than anyone else at the table.
• They also use Human Declare: when your robot partner wins the contract, you're the one who plays it.

Meet GIBBO, your robot partner

Your partner is GIBBO, BBO's bridge robot. GIBBO uses a relatively simple 2/1 bidding system. Every bid includes an explanation, so you can click any of GIBBO's bids to see what it shows. You can also hover over your own available bids before making a choice to view their meaning. Like any bridge partner, GIBBO's bidding is based on its system and judgment, so it won't always match the hand exactly.
