Meet Djazz, BBO Events Manager

Djazz joined BBO in 2023 and helps organize many of the platform's major events, including the eBridge Cup and BXP World Tour. Originally from Brittany and now living in Lille, France, she spends her days developing new event ideas, reading player feedback, and working with the team to improve the BBO experience. We asked her a few questions about her work at BBO.

Tell us a little about yourself! Where are you from, where do you live now, and what does a regular day look like for you?

My name is Djazz. I'm originally from Brittany, in western France, and I'm now based in Lille, in the north. My mornings usually start with my two cats waking me up, gently biting and screaming until I feed them. At the office, I start by checking emails, messages, and what's happening on BBO. I love reading comments on blog posts and YouTube videos, it's the best way to stay connected to the community. On Mondays, the whole team gets together to talk about what's coming up and what we're working on. The rest of the week differs and everyday brings a new subject or challenge.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

Ask me about my cats and you instantly become my best friend. My two girls, Bonnie and Jiji, run the house, and yes, I have photos of them at the office. Bonnie is obsessed with food. Jiji just wants to play, and she destroys every toy within about five minutes.

I also move around a lot. I've lived in Texas, Ireland, and about seven different regions of France. I moved four times in the last three years alone. We just settled into a new place, so we're still getting comfortable.

My name is also pretty unusual in France. I was the first person named Djazz, the average age for this name is just 9 years old, and only around 65 babies have been named Djazz since I was born. It's pronounced "Jazz », the D is silent in most languages, but my parents added it to make sure people in France would get it right. Especially my grandma. It didn't really work on her.

How long have you been working for BBO, and what keeps you interested?

I joined BBO in 2023 as an apprentice, spent two years learning the ropes, and started full-time in September 2025, so almost three years now. What keeps me engaged is that no two days are the same. Bridge is a game of the mind, and that keeps me thinking about new ways to make it even more enjoyable. But honestly, it's the community that holds everything together.

What do you enjoy most about working at BBO?

The team and the community, without a doubt. We're close-knit and face challenges together. We also have people from all over the world — different nationalities, different backgrounds, different levels of experience. Some colleagues have been at BBO since the very beginning, and learning from them is genuinely valuable.
When I started three years ago, I knew nothing about bridge but I discovered was a world of passionate players. Beginners, professionals, people who love to share what they know. I find that fascinating. Bridge deserves to be far better known than it is.

What’s something players might not realize about your work?

I'm behind most of the major events on BBO: eBridge Cup, BXP World Tour, that's me. Our whole team is involved, of course, but I'm always thinking about new formats, new ways to make events more fun or more competitive.

Do you have any interesting or memorable story you'd like to share?

For a while, I exchanged messages with one of our players, a very sweet woman whose advice I valued and whose life I enjoyed learning about. She became seriously ill, and one day, the messages stopped.

What stayed with me is that she kept playing bridge until the very end. From the comfort of her home, whenever she had the energy, she could sit down and play with her son, her family, her friends. That image has never left me. It's a reminder of what this platform actually means to people.
