Vanderbilt Down to Final Eight

The Vanderbilt Knockout Teams at the Spring North American Bridge Championships has advanced to the quarterfinal stage following the completion of the Round of 16 matches.

One of the notable earlier results saw the No. 2 seed captained by Nick Nickell eliminated by the team led by Rob Helle, who won their match 115–81. Another match saw team Hans come from behind to defeat team Xiao 127–103 after trailing earlier in the contest.

Top seeds are still present in the field. The teams led by Fleisher and Zimmermann both advanced and remain among the contenders as the knockout rounds continue.

The eight teams remaining in the event are Fleisher, Shourie, Helle, Hans, Zimmermann, Rubenstein, Overdeck and Rosenthal. The winners of these quarterfinal matches will advance to the semifinal stage as the championship moves toward its final rounds.

Mixed Pairs

The Rockwell Mixed Pairs concluded with Jacqueline Chang and Iulian Rotaru winning the title after the final sessions. The pair finished half a board ahead of the runners up. It is Chang’s first NABC+ title and the fifth for Rotaru.

Swiss Teams

he 0–3000 Swiss Teams was won by the team captained by Skip Page, playing with Clifford Lopate, Suvabrata Biswas and Linzhi Hu. The team qualified in first place and stayed in the lead through the final sessions.

The 0–10K Knockout Teams title went to the team captained by Lamya Agelidis, with Gregory Chaffee, Marjorie O’Malley and Charles O’Malley III.
