Swiss Teams is a team event where your team plays several short matches against different opponents. Teams with similar scores are paired against each other each round.

What Is a Swiss Teams Tournament?

  • You play as a team of four players (two partnerships).
  • Each round, your team plays a short match.
  • After each round, teams are paired against others with similar scores.
  • All teams play the same number of rounds.
  • The team with the highest total score at the end wins.

You do not get eliminated — you play every round.

How to Register for a Swiss Teams Tournament

Go to CompetitiveAll Tournaments. Look for tournaments labeled Swiss Teams.

Once you have found the Swiss Teams tournament you're interested in playing, click on the tournament title.

You will see the tournament registration page, with several tabs at the top. Clicking each tab reveals more options.

Partnership Options

In the Register tab, enter your partner’s username in the text box. Click Invite to send them an invitation.

Your partner must be online to accept. If they are not online, you’ll see an error message and registration will not continue.

Need a partner?
Go to the Partnership Desk tab to add your name to the list, or invite another player who is also looking for a partner.

Once you have chosen your partner and your pair is registered, you can add your teammates.

Go back to the tournament listing and click on the event again to complete your team registration.

The player who invited the partner is the Team Leader. Only the Team Leader can invite the other pair.

To add teammates:

  1. Click the Select Teammates tab.
  2. Click Invite next to the partnership you want to add to your team.

The Leader is responsible for inviting teammates. If the Leader does not select teammates, the system will automatically assign teammates to each pair when the tournament begins.

Clicking the Entries tab will display all teams registered for the tournament.

If for some reason you or any member of your team needs to cancel your registration, you can do so by clicking the Register tab. This is where you can cancel your registration and/or dissolve the team.

Scoring

All teams play the same boards in each round. The number of rounds and boards is set by the tournament organizer.

Each round consists of a fixed number of boards. When a round ends, teams are automatically moved to their next match. This continues until all rounds are completed.

If there is an odd number of pairs, sitouts may occur. If a pair has not selected teammates, the system will automatically match them with another pair when the tournament starts.

Swiss Teams are scored in Victory Points (VPs), using either a 20-VP or 30-VP scale, as determined by the organizer.

After each round, you can see:

  • Your VP score for that round
  • Your team’s total VP score
  • Your current ranking in the tournament
