A World of Stories, One Table at a Time

On BBO, players don’t just compete. They bring their lives to the table.

Behind every username is a story shaped by family, routine, ambition, or simple love of the game. Over time, those stories form something larger than individual results. They create a living community that stretches across countries and generations.

Ashok (BBO: ashok1966), playing from India, carries bridge through different stages of life.

“After marriage, we did play together and finished second in one duplicate bridge tournament in Ahmedabad. That remains my only shining glory in bridge. BBO has been a godsend for me. I now occasionally play with my cousin in Japan, and sometimes we even win a small tournament. My wife no longer plays bridge, as she is now quite sure that I will never desert her.”

For him, bridge connects continents and family. A memory in Ahmedabad leads to games with a cousin in Japan. The table becomes a place where distance feels smaller.

Eric O (BBO: YoDaddy12), playing from Sardinia, approaches the game differently.

“I am the only one who dabbles in "tournament bridge" on off days. I probably play one or two short tournaments a day, accumulating enough BBO points to be a five-plus on some limited efforts. Not sure I will advance much more than that, but I enjoy the competition, and it is super fun when I win an event out of 50-plus people.“

His story reflects the steady rhythm many players know well. A few tournaments a day. Gradual progress. The quiet satisfaction of seeing BXP points add up and occasionally finishing on top.

Then there is Hilary Bobker (BBO: HilaryB46), from the United States, who reminds everyone that bridge is never finished.

“I have been playing for over 60 years. I should know how to play, right? But for the last several years I have been playing on BBO with a very kind mentor. It turns out that I am still learning the game. Sad, really. He is very kind to me. We play the game, then I call him and we go over what I did wrong. He never yells at me. He only says, ‘Hilary, I believe we have discussed this before.’ There is a place in heaven for him. I just hope there is a game there.”

Three players. Three continents. Three distinct paths.

One plays to stay connected. One plays for daily competition. One plays to keep learning after sixty years.

This year, those paths intersect in a visible way through the BXP World Tour. It brings together individual efforts into a shared ranking across regions and countries. Every session contributes. Every result becomes part of something broader.

The tour carries its name honestly. It reflects a world of players moving forward together, each with a different reason for sitting down at the table, yet all connected by the same game.
