UPDATE: This feature is now live! Results for ACBL-sanctioned games on BBO now display player names (as registered with the ACBL) alongside their BBO usernames.
Starting next week, you’ll notice something new (and nice!) when you check the results of ACBL games on BBO: player name.
At the request of the ACBL, and many players, BBO will begin displaying players’ names (as registered with the ACBL) in the results of all ACBL games on BBO.
The information comes directly from the ACBL. We simply display the name associated with your ACBL number. Nothing changes for non-ACBL games results.
This ACBL driven update, is part of a broader effort to bring more connection and community to online ACBL games. More to come…
Yeahhhh, finally some civility being brought back to online bridge. I look forward to playing with players that have 'names'. I started out playing in clubs (the only avenue at the time) and 'civility' was encouraged. Next, please put out the "goodies" to go with the coffee/tea break ..:)
Leaderboards/results are shown to participants in that specific tournament. They are not, per se, "splashed all over the internet". It is essential to note that while the ACBL previously requested this feature, it is now a requirement.
Does this include the ACBL robots only games? If so, why?
So now, in order to participate in an official ACBL game, one will actually have to retroactively participate by the rules about divulging one's name? Because BBO doesn't require a Convention Card with verified names in order to play in an ACBL game...which should make one in ineligible for ACBL MPs...but $s Trump integrity...

If there is no way to opt out of this I simply won't play anymore.

One could always find out one's opponents' names by clicking their user ID. Thus, neither more or less "exposed" than before.
I don't think this is necessary. But thank you.
Oh great, another way to lose anonymity and feel shame! Those of us who dont have titles and lots of points still want to play and get better. It just discourages new people further.
Hopefully, this change will also reduce bad behavior. No more hiding behind your BBO ID (when you don't display your name).
