As the clock struck midnight and we welcomed 2025 around the globe, the 2025 New Year’s Countdown Celebration on BBO brought bridge enthusiasts from all over the world together to bid farewell to 2024 with a few hands of bridge. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the highlights and applaud the champions of this special event.
Our free celebration tournaments were by far the most popular feature, attracting tens of thousands of players eager to join the festivities and spend New Year's at the bridge table.
22,580 players participated in this 24-board matchpoint massive tournament, on December 31st and January 1st, enjoying the flexibility to play at their own pace over 48 hours.
Congratulations to Krunoslav Hulak (krunos) from Montenegro for an incredible win with a score of 74.63%! Second place goes to kabor (tewlwet) with 73.45%. Third place was claimed by Erli Zhou (nerdpower9) from Sunnyvale, CA, with 72.48%.
This 16-board game featured pre-bid deals, challenging participants to test their declarer play skills. A total of 23,388 players joined the challenge, testing their ability to manage tricky contracts.
Congratulations to Jeff Fust (gardenvale) from Australia for taking first place with an impressive 74.99%. Close behind in second is Julian Stefanov (juls) from Bulgaria with 74.25%, and rounding out the podium in third is Detelin Petrov (Peizana) from Bulgaria with 74.03%.

These limited-time games added an extra layer of fun to the celebrations, offering BB$ prizes, BBO Points, ACBL Masterpoints®, and new game formats.
This 12-board game challenged players to score 55% or higher to earn BB$ prizes, BBO Points and ACBL Masterpoints®. Convenient, relaxed, and rewarding — well done to all top performers.
Players competed in 18-board games within their own flight, and earned BBO Points and ACBL Masterpoints®. Congratulations to the Top 3 players in each section, who also earned BB$ prizes.
In this new format, a spin-off of the popular Express Reward games, players teamed up with robots for 8-board Swiss-style pair games. Top scorers advanced to higher tables after each round, competing against opponents of similar strength. Players who scored 55% or higher earned BB$ prizes and BBO Points!
BBO+ subscribers enjoyed a relaxed 10-board individual game with surprise BB$ gifts and BBO Points.
Congratulations to Sue (Susiecc) for leading the game with 76.77%. In second place was Paul Brown (seminole1) with 71.67%, and third place went to Joan Cremin (joan delia) with 68.33%.
Our elite players competed in a special invitational event with generous BB$ prizes and BBO Points, making it a memorable way to cap off 2024.
Big congratulations to Sergiu Lupu (sergiu) from France for taking home the grand prize of 100 BB$ with an impressive 76.91%. In second place was Alex Kolesnik (kolesnik) from USA with 75.72%, and third place went to Adrian V. (pitic) from Romania with 73.68%.
It was wonderful to see the BBO community come together to celebrate and share this special event at the turning point between years.
