The story I’d like to share is not connected to a bridge hand or a great win at a bridge tournament exactly. It is connected to an event that occurred in 1957 and ended with a miracle in my life that I wanted to share at this time.
In 1991, I returned home to Buskirk, NY after playing in a regional in Syracuse NY. After a 4 hour nighttime drive, I was still giddy from winning my first flight A event. It was about 3:00am. On my kitchen table was a letter that I remember thinking the writing looked like mine! When I opened it, it began: dear Mary, you are going to be in shock like I still am. I’m your daughter Rose, you are my mother!
In 1957, I gave my daughter up for adoption. I was very young and society was not what it is now and I also was unwed.
When I opened that letter and read those words, I saw maybe I had another chance to see and love my oldest daughter. This miracle dwarfed my flight A event but since 1991 is forever etched in my mind as the greatest end to any tournament I’ve played in since.
I met Rose for the second time in my life 1 month later at the airport in Albany, NY when she was 34 years old. We have made our own history over the years since, that we were denied for 34 years. We are still so happy.
Thank you for letting me share our miracle.

Thankfully society has changed in that regard.

Thank you for sharing your deliriously happy story. Great to read good news!
I komer and play!
I learned bridge when I was 5 yrs old from my grandma. When she babysat me we would play two handed. Little did I know then that 82 years later I would be playing online and keeping sharp from bridge. Incidentally I am a certified teacher and director who use to teach on cruises and have over 4500 master points.
Bless both of you. The best gift of all!
Very interesting. Also heart warming.

Albany Rose...?
Must try it
Very clever lol. Maybe I’ll put Albany Rose on my cc next to 2/1 🎶
What a wonderful story Mary. Family trumps bridge. I am so happy you found each other.
Until then, I was not a believer of second chances or miracles. I sure am now 🌹
Congratulations to you both! So happy that you found each other. All the Best to you both in the years to come.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful miracle
Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it with us.Blessings to you both.
a miracle and such a happy one.so pleased for you both.
I had a similar ‘situation’ I was in my mid forties and found my mother. It was not the happiest time as my mother ‘Mary’ had five further children in wedlock. The remaining children, now, only my half brother will keep in contact with. I have my own loving family, so no regrets about my ‘half’ family. It would have been nice to have been fully accepted by my mother’s children in her marriage but life is not a bed of roses, you fall onto the thorns sometimes.
Lesley, we were indeed very, very lucky that we both were happy about this. I had named her Rose Mary after me and that was in the court records along with my maiden name and the town in Vermont where I lived years ago. She “remembers “ her mother as I had her for 2 days in the hospital. She was never “erased” from my family, husbands and her sisters. They all knew they had an older sister somewhere and the circumstances surrounding her birth when they were 14 or so. I believe this helped us.
Thank you for caring💝
How lovely!
What is the miracle not clear maybe the writer is still giddy.
