We recently caught up with Virginia Chediak (vicky82) from Norway, who came out on top at the WBF Women’s Online Autumn Festival this November.
She's 41 years old and lives in Kragerø, a small city in Norway, with her 10-year-old son, who's also a bridge player. A bridge-playing family - love it!
She has a wide range of hobbies, including hiking in nature, traveling, dancing, and language learning. She also loves going to the gym 3-5 times a week, and, of course, playing bridge. Bridge, she mentions, is the hobby that takes most of her time.
“I play every day on BBO, play in weekly local club games, and travel for bigger events on some weekends.”
Recently, she won the WBF Women’s Online Autumn Festival held from November 6-12. Impressively, she secured a total 6.81 points from her 10 best scores. This marks as her sixth win in the WBF Women's Online Festival. She also gets 200 WBF Points and maintains her lead in the WBF online ranking which she's held for the past 8 years. Wonderful!
Sharing her strategy, she says,
“I play as many tournaments as I can. I played all of them from my phone, so sometimes I made some misclicks. I set an alarm clock 5 minutes before the start of each tournament ☺️. It’s a challenging week with little sleep between tournaments, but it only happens twice a year.”
She's played in this festival since 2014, expressing her love for the event where she can meet old and new friends.
“It’s fun, and women from all around the world can play, at all skill levels too!”
By winning this festival, she receives a free entry to the WBF Pairs Championships in 2024. When asked about her preparation for the event, she mentions,
“I still don’t know if I will play in the Pairs Championships 2024. My partner in Norway is Ranja Sivertsvik; we have been playing together since 2016 and have achieved numerous medals at the Norwegian championships. In 2016, we were 4th in the Europeans in Budapest.”
We wish the best for them, and hope they can join the championships. Perhaps you'll be up against Virginia and Ranja in the upcoming WBF Pairs Championships in 2024!
