Instant Tournaments are games where you do not need a partner. You are partnering an advanced bridge robot, and your opponents are also robots. You can start an Instant Tournament anytime by clicking the game type you prefer (Matchpoints, IMPs, ACBL, BBO, etc.)
When you start an Instant Tournament, you will be dealt deals from a past tournament you have not played before. Your scores will be compared against players in those tourneys.
Your game starts instantly, and your scores and final results are also available right away. In the premium variations, if you do well, you can win BBO points or ACBL masterpoints®.
Different versions available
- BBO Instant Tournaments award BBO Points, are 8-boards long, IMP or MP scoring, and have a small BB$ entry fee. Your scores are compared against 14 players from a past tournament you have not played before.
- BBO Instant 100 awards BBO Points, is 8-boards long, IMP or MP scoring, and has a small BB$ entry fee. Your scores are compared against 14 players in your section and again against around 100 players for the overall standings, with deals from a past tournament you have not played before.
- ACBL Instant Tournaments are open to all, award ACBL colorless Masterpoints and BBO Points. They are 12-boards long, IMP or MP, and have a BB$ entry fee.
- ACBL Instant 100 is open to all, awards ACBL colorless Masterpoints and BBO Points. The game is 12-boards long, IMP or MP, and has a BB$ entry fee. Your scores are compared against 14 players in your section and against roughly 100 players from a past tournament you have not played before for the overall rankings.
- ACBL Instant Tournaments Silver, and ACBL Instant Tournaments Gold are available to eligible international ACBL members (District 99) and award Gold and Silver masterpoints. They are 12-boards long, IMP or MP, and have a BB$ entry fee.
- Weekly Free Instant Tournament - Once a week on Friday morning, a new, free instant robot tournament is uploaded. You can play as many times as you like. The free version does not offer points.
Game specifics
- Instant tournaments are "best hand" - your hand will always contain at least the same HCP as the next highest HCP hand.
- Human Declare - when North wins the contract, South (you!) will declare instead.
- The game is not clocked, you can take as much as you need for your bids and plays - however, if you are idle for a long time (around 45 minutes for the Instant Tournaments, 24 hours for the Instant 100), the game times out and is forfeited.
About the robots
The robots use a relatively simple and natural 2/1 bidding system. You can find out the meaning of any bid by clicking on that bid as it appears in the bidding diagram. Furthermore, when it is your turn to bid, moving your mouse over the buttons for the various possible bids will cause an explanation of the bid you are considering (as your robot partner will understand it) to be displayed. These explanations can be somewhat cryptic, but reading them carefully before you bid will help you to avoid misunderstandings with your robot partner.
