In this episode of Table Talks, Steve Raine sits down with 16-year-old U.S. junior bridge star Avery Silverstein, a silver medalist at the World Championship and the daughter of professional bridge player Aaron Silverstein.
Avery shares her journey to winning silver with the USA 2 junior team, her love for playing behind screens, and the joy of partnering with her dad in major events. Along the way, she gives tips for new partnerships, and reflects on the challenges of fast play in junior events.
They also talk about past NABCs, Avery’s early days at bridge tournaments, and her plans for more competitive events. Watch until the end to see Steve get "beer-ed"—by Avery’s expert play… well, actually his own!
Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
I have had lessons on playing bridge. One of the lessons taught us to lead with the fourth highest card of a suit of cards in your hand. (subtract 11 and thus show where the other cards are). I now observe players leading with an ace or a second ace if they hold it. Can you please tell me which play is the right one now Thank you
Ron Kirk
Hi Ron, the "right" move in bridge depends on the hand and context. Your choice should consider your hand and the bidding—different situations can make any choice the right one. 🙂
