Declarer Play Problems #2

Problème 1

Contract: 4
Lead: ♣Q for the ♣K and ♣A by East.
East returning the 7

What's your plan?

Réponse correcte:

c) Win in hand, play a Heart to dummy's A and a

Thanks to the presence of the ♣109, your only problem is in the trump suit.

Problème 2

Contract: 6
Lead: K

Having won with the A, how do you proceed?

Réponse correcte:

b) Draw trumps, cross to dummy with a Club, ruff a Diamond, cash the ♠A and the ♣K, ruff a Club, and play a Spade.

If you eliminate the minor suits, cashing one top Spade along the way in case West started with a singleton ♠Q (in which case you can take all the tricks), you then play a second Spade, covering East's card, or playing the ♠8 if East discards.

Problème 3

Contract: 4
West leads the ♠K and continues with the ♠Q which you ruff.

What do you do?

Réponse correcte:

a) Draw trumps ending in dummy and play a Diamond to the 8.

When West fails to find a Club switch at trick 2, you have time to play a Diamond to the 8. West wins with the Q and switches to a Club, but you win in dummy and play a Diamond to the 10. If that loses to the J you can hope the Club finesse is working.

  1. "Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!"

Do trump split 2-1? If yes, none of the proposed lines of play are the best

  2. I think problem 1 is incorrect, east ducks the heart and now you go to dummy with a spade and play a heart, east wins and returns a spade, South now has no time to develop a club trick, if you go to dummy with a diamond east will get a ruff.
