I started to play Auction Bridge at the age of 15 years. My uncle gave me the first lesson of this game. I loved the game and played with my friends , colleagues and also in local tournaments (Auction Bridge)
My son , an ex- scientist of ISRO, India, now lives in California, has taught me the bidding of Contract Bridge and told me to join the BBO for practice.
It is a very memorable journey which I have enjoyed very much. I am grateful to all my partners and opponents for sharing their valuable time with me.
At last, thanks to BBO, the most popular and famous site of Bridge of the World, for giving me the opportunity to meet so many beautiful and talented players all over the world.

I will forever be thankful for my long term wife Monica 21, she is my wife of 13 years. I remember the exact moment I met her on bridgebase.com... She was my p and was super groggy with me because I fumbled a 7NT! I am super thankful for the bridgebase.com chat system because we started chatting more and more. She is still my precious treasure till this very day...! We decided to meetup since we lived around the same area and I fell in love at first sight... Her witty insults and her endlessly gleeful personality... Bridge changed the course of my life!

Thank you, Mala… and to Mr. Iyer, without whom I would never have become even a remotely capable player. My heartfelt gratitude also to all my bridge partners, known and unknown. Bridge has brought depth and concentration to another level in me and countless moments of joy into my life — more than I ever imagined.

I want to thank Fred Roos for a masterly introduction into our game in the late 80-ties. Also the daily presentation of hands and games of the previous night were always very entertaining. I still have them saved. Still enjoying the many layers of this great game.

Thankyou to Fred Gitelman for online BBO, for bringing the game of Bridge into the lives of thousands throughout the world. I appreciated the high standards of Bridge etiquette that Fred insisted were part of the enjoyment of playing Bridge. As well Fred gave support to Hallway for the BIL -Beginner/Intermediate/Lounge site which has introduced so many newbies to the Bridge world.
Thanks also to the many that I have met on the BBO site over the years...to helpers...Gerado. Uday, Karen, Jacki..to name some, and thank you to the players with whom have become lifetime friends. The input from Fred and his online Bridge vision has brought friendship and pleasure to so many

To my grandparents Olive and Addison who taught me bridge when I was 9 or 10. (They were born in 1901 and 1903!) Long time ago now they have both gone on to greater things and other realms.
How much joy bridge has brought me throughout my lifetime. I am thankful for this lovely recreational pursuit.

I want to thank my maternal grandmother for getting me Goren's beginner book when I was 11. This was summer 1963. There was no competitive play at that time.

Thank you, Janet, who many years ago -- I was 18, you were 15 -- suggested we teach ourselves bridge. I don't know where you are -- we last saw each other almost 50 years ago -- but THANK YOU!

BBO
Thanks
Bridge is almost like playing Golf.
After 18 boards are played, better not talk about it in the parking lot to get to ones car, better not point out the incorrect play to your partner, if your partner points out your incorrect play, simply say sorry, and tell it happens, friendship and partnership are more important than being correct. Bridge is not like a box of chocolate, it is more like a thousand page novel with unpredictable end.

To my Mom in Heaven. She introduced my wife and me to bridge in our early twenties when we had three young children and very little extra money to go out on a date. We would go over to my parents home and play bridge while our children napped. My wife and I still play bridge today and my father who will be 95 still plays with a group in his retirement home.

Thank You, BBO – My Bridge Home Since 2005
BBO has been a part of my life since day one – literally from its founding in 2005 – and continues to be so today. I can never thank you enough for what this platform has meant to me.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of serving as a Tournament Director while also continuing to play the game I love. It's been a dream of mine to work as part of the BBO team, and while it hasn't happened yet, I haven't given up hope. That dream is still very much alive.
For those of us who truly love bridge, BBO is nothing short of perfect. To everyone who has contributed to building and maintaining this incredible site – thank you from the bottom of my heart.
BBO isn't just a platform to me. It's like family.

My thank you goes to Jack Berry, who introduced me to bridge about 23 years ago while I have gone on to be a bridge director and owner of two bridge clubs in the area, Jack at almost 95 years of age still comes to my game to play. I’m thankful for that and so glad that he taught me the game of bridge.

Thankyou to Hallway for starting the BIL-Beginner Intermediate Lounge site on BBO. When I found online Bridge way back in 2005, I discovered the BIL room and through the input that Maureen Hall shared -and still shares-with the members I was able to advance and play in regular ACBL speedball tournaments. Not only did I learn about Bridge during my time playing in the BIL but I made lifelong friends as well. Thankyou Hallway

I'm a big fan of BBO and have been a member for about ten years. I can't begin to tell everyone how being a member of BBO has immensely improved my game. I play 2 to 3 times a day and I want to thank my wonderful partners over the years for helping me improve my game. Couldn't do it without you. Thanks!!!

In 1969, a friend and I were invited to a local bridge club to try our hand at duplicate. We arrived early so the director could teach us movements, scoring, etc. It was master point night and much to everyone's surprise, we somehow came in second. I was hooked on duplicate from that time on and have played in local and regional games whenever I could. I love the game because it's made me many friends and I enjoy the challenge of the game. While no longer able to attend F2F games, I appreciate that BBO is there to allow me to continue the friendships and competitions.

I first learned bridge from my father. He had been playing long before I was born. He taught me the basics when I was in elementary school, and that was enough for something to click. I even joined a Mini-Bridge event and ended up winning. That early spark stayed with me.

Life moved on, and I stepped away from bridge for a while. But years later, when I started university and looked for something to join, I found my way back to the game. It felt like coming home. I entered national and junior tournaments, played well, and realized my love for bridge had grown even stronger… strong enough that I eventually passed my dad’s level. 😀

Looking back, I’m grateful for that first introduction, those early moments reading what my father wrote on the whiteboard. So “terima kasih, Bapak” (roban01 on BBO), for opening the door to a game that has become such a meaningful part of my life.

  1. I played a few hands with my dad's friends and immediately became obsessed. I jumped on BBO. I'd play as fast I could, and whenever I was waiting, I'd analyse how others had played the same hands.

I was sprayed in unsolicited bad advice, as beginners tend to be. Thankfully I loved the game so much that I ignored the swearing, tantrums and blaming that pervaded BBO at the time. People were also condescending to me in bridge clubs, but without the cloak of anonymity, they weren't emboldened to swear. Once I surpassed those players they flipped and started being polite. Bizarre.

I put my bridge successes largely down to treating everyone with respect and staying curious about the game. When I won big events I wasn't the best player and I wasn't on the best team. I'd watch the competitors around me hurl negativity and doubt at their partners and teammates. Composure is underrated.

If you suspect your partner has made a mistake, give the hand to an expert and ask what they'd do in your position and why. You'll often learn that you could have solved your partner's problem for them before it arose. Teach your partner what you've learned. Your results will improve and you'll be more desirable as a partner.

More importantly, the next beginner who walks into the room might want to stay because they'll see a healthy culture!

  2. My sincere thank you to the Hartford Bridge Club for giving me an opportunity to improve my bridge playing skill. I learned a lot from John Willoughby who mentored me and for his guidance I shall appreciate and remember him for the rest of my life.

  3. Thank you all bridge authors! This includes the fantasy authors such as Mollo, Bird, Simon and so many other ones! Quality has been delivered every time. Think of expert advices from Reese, Kelsey, Zia, Klnger, Ruben, Woolsey, Steward, Lawrence, Larry Cohen, aso. Those books are the best teachers you can find. Add all BBO tools like Bridge Master and it becomes so easy to improve on your own!

  4. Thank you to my Mom for showing us how fun bridge can be. She was also very competitive and enjoyed all
The points she won in duplicate. If it hadn’t been for her and my Dad we would have never attempted this fantastic game !

  5. I started to play Bridge when I was 18: my college best friend demanded I came to her room too my be the 4th in a bridge game. I’d only ever played whist. I was hooked. She was Sandra Gordon then, now she’s Sandra Scott. Thanks Sandy!!!
