The Top Bidders for Set 2023-10

This proved to be a fairly high-scoring set, with the most popular choice of the competition entrants scoring a ‘10’ on three hands. The average score was 46.83 and selecting the popular choice of competitors on every deal would have scored 59/80. For the second month running, a perfect score was needed to win.

Just a solo winner this month, with a score of 80/80:

Jim Streisand (strei1) from United States

Jim is a 67 year old from Wayland, MA . He rarely plays in live tournaments these days, but is an active participant in many of the BBO fest robot tournaments.  He has won several robot stars and platinum events and had the highest individual score in a country vs country tournament.

This was a fairly high-scoring  set, so you need a score of 70/80 or higher to make the leader-board this month. Congratulations to everyone who makes the list.

The 2023 Annual Competition

Demonstrating the remarkably high standard displayed by our top bidders this year, there is one player averaging 70/80 over his best nine scores that does not even make it into the Top 20 in the annual competition.

Dave’s 78/80 this month enables him to skip past Paul and take a 2-point lead at the top.  Although 9 points behind Dave, Bob stays on the podium with a 3-point advantage over the rest of the field.

Our reigning champion, Alexander, jumps up from ninth to fourth with 78/80 this month. Luwen, the winner in 2021, scored 76/80 and hangs on to fifth spot as Vincent’s 66/80 was his lowest score of the year, and he drops down to sixth. However, he has the advantage of a score in the 60s still to drop.

Ian moves up one place to seventh with 77/80 this month, and consolidates his place as the leading Canadian. Another high scorer this month, with 79/80, Arif moves into the Top 10, up three places to eighth. Our second Canadian, Michael, scores 74/80 to move up one place to ninth. Hanoi’s 68/80 is a score that he’ll be looking to dispose of next month, and he drops three places but just hangs on to a place in the Top 10.

Just outside the Top 10, Jim’s perfect 80/80 this month moves him up seven places into a tie for eleventh spot with Todd, who moves up two places with his 71/80.  John drops two places, but the 61/80 he scored his month is his next score to drop, and that gives him an advantage over those just ahead of him.

New in the Top 20 and the biggest gainer of the month is Paul, who jumped about 50 places to 16^th with 77/80 this month. He missed a month earlier in the year, and thus only now has the same number of counting scores as everyone else. Another new entry is Enhao, whose 76/80 this month lifted him into a tie for 17^th with Pete.

You need an average score of 60/80 or more (ie a total of 540) to make the annual competition leader-board. Congratulations to everyone who makes the list, which represents around the top 115 bidders from amongst the many thousands who take part every month.
